Hi! B here! Bienvenidos a Mexico! These are the traditional flowers seen EVERYWHERE during Dia de Muertos: the gold cempasuchil or marigolds + the terciopelo or cockscombs. The cempasuchil have a distinct fragrance that the souls of the dead follow to reach their families’ ofrendas. Before and during Dia de Muertos, families create “ofrendas” (shrines to honor passed loved ones) composed of photographs, flowers, sugar skulls, food, and papel de picado. All throughout Mexico, photos of passed loved ones are placed in a variety of locations. This facade is located in San Miguel de Allende. Hotel entrance in San Miguel de Allende. Every Dia de Los Muertos, this university of architecture located in Guanajuato, Mexico turns its front steps into a giant ofrenda.Guanajuato, an old silver mining town, turns its tunnels into a destination for DDLM activities. The floating paper banners are called papel picado – their movement is supposed to announce the arrival of the spirits of the dead.Thank God, many people in the city dress up for DDLM.Some of the Best Dressed.DDLM is a vibe.Snippets of my experience walking through the streets.Off brief but still bringing the joy.Inspiration for next year’s costume.YES.
